Green and Yellow Check Set (4) Vitra Vintage Original Eames Upholstered DSW Side Chairs
Want an iconic alternative for dining or living chairs? Here’s a set of vintage Eames and Vitra side shells with Girard’s green and yellow check fabric. Sat upon their used dark wood DSW bases, these iconic shells have been lovingly finished in one of Alexander Girard’s more unusual and yet striking naugahyde fabrics that only helps accentuate the versatility not only in the shells design but in style too.
The Eames shells’ history has been well documented, from their beginning in 1950 with only the arm shell to their much praised versatility being encouraged by the introduction of new base variants. Alexander Girard, the lead designer for Herman Miller, was commissioned to help design fabric and vinyl finishes for the arm and side shells available for both contract and general use. The designs he produced were vast and there are many variations of colour and fabric finish which emerged over the years.
These particular tops are in good aged condition. There are some slight marks on some of the shells but a small amount of work will restore them.
The unique checker-board design really is a unique and interesting finish and with slightly thicker foam than on usual upholstered shells there is added comfort too! One shell does have a small bit of unravelling but it is not big. Price does reflect this.
The ‘Herman Miller’ embossed logo indicates these are Vitra shells produced under Herman Miller’s license.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Excellent examples of a lovely combination such as these represent a good investment prospect.
