Green and Yellow Check Vitra Vintage Original Eames Upholstered DSW Side Chair
Here’s a great example of an original Eames and Vitra side shell with green and yellow check fabric. Sat upon its used dark wood DSW base, this iconic shell has been lovingly finished in a striking Alexander Girard fabric that helps accentuate the versatility of the design.
The Eames shells’ history has been well documented, from their beginning in 1950 with only the arm shell to their much praised versatility being encouraged by the introduction of new base variants. Alexander Girard, the lead designer for Herman Miller, was commissioned to help design fabric and vinyl finishes for the arm and side shells available for both contract and general use. The designs he produced were vast and there are many variations of colour and fabric finish which emerged over the years.
This particular top is in good aged condition. There are some slight marks on it but a small amount of work will restore them.
The unique checker-board design really is a unique and interesting finish and with slightly thicker foam than on usual upholstered shells there is added comfort too!
The ‘Herman Miller’ embossed logo indicates this is a Vitra shell produced under Herman Miller’s license.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Excellent examples of a lovely combination such as this represent a good investment prospect.
