The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953. Greige was one of the first colours the original shells was produced in and has proven to be an excellent collector’s piece. The earliest examples are defined by their highly fibrous finish adding an extra depth to the colour of the shell.
As a highly coveted colour, this shell is a fantastic example to own. The chair does show some natural signs of wear but is in great vintage condition.
The ‘C’ with star indicates this shell originates from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.
Eames shells are a highly collectable piece. Of course, as with anything, their age and condition are the primary factors influencing the investment value of them and this is coupled with the colour and originality of the chair. As an excellent example of a greige side chair, this is a good investment piece.
