Greige Pair (2) Herman Miller Vintage Original Eames DSW Side Shell Chairs
A pair of excellent vintage Eames side chairs for Herman Miller looks fantastic in greige and with their dark wood used DSW dowel bases. Greige side shells are a highly coveted colour for the Eames shell chairs and this version is in excellent vintage condition.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953. Greige was one of the first colours the original shells was produced in and has proven to be an excellent collector’s piece. The earliest examples are defined by their highly fibrous finish adding an extra depth to the colour of the shell.
As a highly coveted colour, these shells are a fantastic example to own. The chairs do show some natural signs of wear but are in great vintage condition.
The ‘C’ with star indicates these shells originate from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.
Eames shells are a highly collectable piece. Of course, as with anything, their age and condition are the primary factors influencing the investment value of them and this is coupled with the colour and originality of the chair. As excellent examples of greige side chairs, these are good investment pieces.
