‘Grey Targets’ Herman Miller Vintage Eames RAR Arm Chair With Alexander Girard Upholstery
The perfect example of an old classic. A vintage Herman Miller Eames RAR arm chair has been adorned in original Alexander Girard fabric called ‘Grey Targets’. The newer fabric was the first choice when it came to renovating this particular arm shell since it was one of the original designs by Alexander Girard.
Sat on the used RAR base, this chair really evokes the era from which it originates with its bold design and comfortable shape. Due to the success of the design, the shape of the shell changed very little since its introduction in 1950 and with the upholstered finishes being made available as early as 1953, the comfortable and versatile dream of the ‘chair for the masses’ really sprang to life.
The combination this chair uses brought together, arguably, two of the most esteemed designers (and friends) of home and office ware from the 1900s and this particular piece displays evokes this with pride.
The fiber shell is in great vintage condition with no cracks, chips or defects.
The Alexander Girard fabric for Herman Miller is in a great condition with no defects and no lifting.
The ‘S’ within the circle indicates this shell originates from Herman Miller’s Summit Prime factory.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. An excellent example of a lovely combination such as this represents a good value investment.
