Black Leather Pair (2) Mies Van Der Rohe Original Knoll BRNO Chairs
An unarguable classic, here we have a pair of original Mies Van Der Rohe BRNO cantilevered steel chairs in black leather and with tubular frame. Designed in 1929 for Fritz and Grete Tugendhat’s Czechoslovakian house in Brno, these chairs are accredited to Van Der Rohe but Knoll’s Albert Pfeiffer suggests that Van Der Rohe did not fully develop any contemporary furniture until partnering with Lilly Reich, who helped with designing the Tugendhat’s house.
Constructed from its singular steel frame and leather upholstered seat, the chair was originally designed to be used in the bedroom, but its effortless and comfortable design means it will work as an office chair or alternative lounge chair. The continued production of this iconic design proves how reliable, versatile and comfortable this chair is. These particular examples encompass this and will prove to live up to the standards Van Der Rohe’s work expects to provide.
The leather is in good condition, as are the steel tubular frames, but as original examples, natural wear with age is expected. With some gentle cleaning, these chairs will look as glorious as the day they were produced.
Van Der Rohe’s work has always garnered interest and these gorgeous examples of the BRNO chair do not disappoint. With interest still strong, these chairs should prove to be a great investment.
