Zenith Plastics were the first factory Eames used to produce the shell chairs and were only used for a short period before moving to Herman Miller. The rocking base was only provided as an option for a short period of time. After 1968 the rocker base was discontinued and was only available to Herman Miller employees who were becoming parents. They were give the change to select which seat top they wanted with what upholstery they wanted and a brass plate with the babies birthdate was screwed to the back of the seat top for the couple.
A third generation Zenith in such good condition is very hard to find and this particular version is excellent for its age.
The used rocker base is in good condition with only some natural ware expected with being used.
The three dots in a triangle on the underside of the shell with the small shock mounts indicates this is a 3rd generation Zenith top. This was the most experimental phase for the shells with many various logos and labels appearing on the underside of the shells.
Eames shells vary in terms of investment value due to so many factors.
