Parchment 3rd Generation Zenith Vintage Original Eames RAR Rocking Arm Chair
A rare, third generation original Zenith parchment Eames arm shell looks stunning on its original natural wood RAR rocking base, creating a real statement piece. The flawless finish of the aged shell really comes to life when seen upon the natural wood rocker base.
Zenith Plastics were the first factory Eames used to produce the shell chairs and were only used for a short period before moving to Herman Miller. The rocking base was only provided as an option for a short period of time. After 1968 the rocker base was discontinued and was only available to Herman Miller employees who were becoming parents. They were give the change to select which seat top they wanted with what upholstery they wanted and a brass plate with the babies birthdate was screwed to the back of the seat top for the couple.
A third generation Zenith in such good condition is very hard to find and this particular version is excellent for its age. Especially with this shell being sat upon an original RAR base which is in good vintage condition too.
The three dots in a triangle on the underside of the shell with the small shock mounts indicates this is a 3rd generation Zenith top. This was the most experimental phase for the shells with many various logos and labels appearing on the underside of the shells.
Eames shells vary in terms of investment value due to so many factors. The age, origin and colour of the shell coupled with its condition are key aspects along with the originality of the base the shell is upon. Since this is a third generation Zenith top, in such great condition, sat upon an original natural wood RAR base, this chair will prove to be a great investment piece
