Red 1st Generation Herman Miller Vintage Plywood Eames LCM Lounge Chair
An original red stained version of the iconic Eames and 1st generation Herman Miller LCM lounge chair metal base, this vintage piece is a beautiful example of the Eames plywood chair. A rare version of the molded plywood selection, this aged chair is in great condition for its age and is a highly coveted piece of history. The earlier variants came with a wooden base, but as time passed, the Eames’s changed the base to metal and gradually made small changes to the molded shape of the plywood seat to maintain its modern look as the fashion trends changed.
The nature of this chair makes it perfect for any home or reception environment. Whilst originally designed more with the ‘Lounge’ aspect in mind, this chair could still prove to be a comfortable and stylish office reception chair. The versatility of this design coupled with its modern look makes it easy to understand why this is such a popular chair.
The red stained wood is remarkable for its age. The original stained finishes had a tendency to fade with time, but this particular example has managed to retain a good depth to its colour.
The base shows natural signs of age, expected with being 50+ years old, but is in very good condition otherwise and still has all of its original feet. The surface rust should clean off nicely and some metal polish will help bring up the original shine.
The plywood Eames chairs are a much sought-after piece of history. Investment value varies dependent upon age and the all wood chairs are the chairs, unsurprisingly, are the version that most increase over time. This is a great example of a stained LCM – which is very hard to find – and so should prove to be a very good investment piece.
