The Eames shell series chairs really do not need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940's, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by.
The variety of bases increased the versatile functionality of the chairs and allowed them to be used in nearly any environment. This particular variant was designed specifically so that the shells could be used as pub/bar stools. Their sleek, pedestal design means they are compact and very stylish whilst providing a strong dependable base to seat yourself whilst enjoying your favourite drink.
In great vintage condition, small signs of use around the edge, as expected with age, but the colour is exemplary and there are no cracks or dents.
The original MBP barstool base is in great vintage condition. There are some natural signs of age but a good polish will bring back its shine. Must be fitted into the floor to use.
The ‘C’ with the star logo indicates this shell was produced at Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. A rare piece such as this will prove to be a great investment piece or a fantastic design piece situated next to your bar.
