Tan and Rosewood Pair (2) Plycraft Original Mulhauser Lounge Chairs
These are rare, original, Plycraft and Mulhauser segmented lounge chairs finished in sumptuous tan leather and rosewood panels – truly the essence of comfort. From the ‘moulded wood’ era, these chairs are part of the extensive collection of products Plycraft produced which also included boats!
Paul Goldman, the founder for Plycraft, designed many of Plycraft’s products for his company, including his own version of the Eames Lounge Chair. These chairs are a more unique version of a lounge style chair which look amazing and are exceptionally comfortable.
Typical of the era, this style of chair was available in a range of upholstered finishes and wood panels, encapsulating the forward thinking element of the mid-century modern period.
The original leather finish is superb. There are no tears or cuts and they have aged very nicely to become very supple but still supportive.
The wooden panels have a perfect patina to them with only some natural signs of wear typical for their age.
A rare piece, these are not a Plycraft chair which is commonly found for sale and little is documented about their design heritage.
One of the most common factors for ‘high investment value’ is the rarity of the piece. Plycraft products are coveted pieces, but these particular chairs are very difficult to find - even more so as a matching pair - especially in such good condition and with their exquisite leather and rosewood finish they should prove to be very good investment pieces.
