White 3rd Generation Zenith Original Vintage Eames DSR Side Shell Chair
This original, vintage 3rd generation Zenith and Eames white side shell is the rare painted back version which was only produced for a limited time. White is the perfect neutral colour for any colour scheme, it effortlessly compliments any pattern and this is embolden by the grey painted back whilst the iconic design of the shell means it will quietly be a real statement piece, especially on its excellent used chrome DSR base.
The success of these chairs has been proven by the continuous production time they have seen. From their origin in the 1950s, new bases, upholstered variants and even adapted variants such as the La Fonda ensured these chairs have cemented themselves in the history books with their iconic and versatile design. Upholstered versions were introduced in the late 1950s when Alexander Girard was commissioned to help design them and new bases found their way under the shells over the many years they have been produced.
The shell is in good vintage condition, there are no signs of chips or dents on the body of the shell but the edges have natural wear to them as does the grey painted back.
The ‘Z’ within the circle indicates this shell originates from Zenith. This was their most experimental phase, a varied array of logos were embossed onto the shells over time and the smaller shock mounts began to appear.
The investment value of the shell top series depends upon many factors such as the age of the shell, the age of the base, the rarity of the shell colour, the factory of origin and, of course, the condition. The good vintage condition of this shell coupled with it being an original Zenith should mean it proves to be a satisfactory investment piece.
